AI can help researchers search, organise, question and work through literature. But it becomes dangerous when convenience is mistaken for evidence. The key is knowing which parts of a literature review can be assisted by AI—and which responsibilities must remain with the researcher.
Data analysis does not end when we describe a percentage, coefficient, theme or pattern. The harder—and more important—task is deciding what that evidence means, what it does not mean, and what we are justified in concluding from it.
A literature review should not read like a sequence of article summaries. Its real purpose is to organise existing research into an argument about what we know, where studies disagree, and what still needs to be understood.
